The month of September began with a newspaper article in the
Mid-day, entitled "A very special 50 for a very special school", highlighting the focus on Awareness, Acceptance, Inclusion and Integration as a part of the School's Golden Jubilee celebrations. In the article, the Principal, Ms. Fionika Sanghvi outlined the challenges faced by the school, particularly after the lockdown, and also the challenges involved in facilitating Inclusion for the students. Ms. Priya D'Souza, staff member and coordinator, talked about how the school now promoted out-of-the-box thinking, encouraging new careers such as blogging and vlogging for our differently abled students. Ms. Tejal Kothari, Co-ordinator, Intermediate level, mentioned possibilities in the creative industries such as graphic design, painting and music, as well as careers such as data entry, basic data computation and use of computers. Ms. Kashmira Vazifdar, psychologist and arts-based therapy practitioner highlighted the need for greater visibility of neurodivergent people in the workforce, in cultural and creative arts streams and in public places, so that people appreciate their abilities, leading to greater acceptance. The article outlined some of the events planned for the Golden Jubilee celebrations, such as the Concert, the Exhibition, the Sports Events and the Internships, which would involve participation of neurodivergent individuals alongside neurotypical individuals.
The Sports teachers Ms. Rajashri Ghosalkar and Ms. Alpana Koli, along with students of Sadhana School, attended the 14th State Level Table Tennis Tournament on Saturday 9th September, 2023, organized by the AWMH Maharashtra, at the Goregaon Sports Club. Totally 21 students from Grade IV, as well as the Intermediate Level and Vocational Training departments participated. All the students were able to play at the competitive level independently and confidently, winning 3 Gold, 3 Silver, 5 Bronze and 10 Copper medals.
The school received a visit from the students of the Dress Designing and Garment Manufacturing Fashion Unit, Sophia Polytechnic. 22 students visited the Visual Arts & Craft department and the Wood Art Handicraft department in order to understand painting techniques. Both institutions agree to collaborate for a fashion show as part of the Golden Jubilee celebration of S.P.J. Sadhana School which is to be held in January 2024.
The school celebrated Teacher's Day on September 5, 2023, to show appreciation for the dedication and hard work of the teachers and staff. The parents organized the celebration, and took on the role of teachers for that day, preparing and conducting activities with the students for an hour-long morning session, followed by the students wishing their teachers.. The occasion was beautifully woven together, and the parents put in a great deal of effort to prepare the students to make cards, sing, dance, perform and make speeches, which made the teachers feel truly special, as they enjoyed the creativity and enthusiasm of the students. Mickey Mehta and his team conducted a dance movement activity with the teachers. The teachers also truly appreciated the generous gift of beautiful sarees offered to them.
Additionally, the Parent Teacher Association has invited the teachers to experience "The Great Indian Musical - Civilization to Nation", a spectacular theatrical performance with opulent sets and extraordinary dance, drama and music at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre.
S. P. J. Sadhana School is happy to announce that their students have been awarded Internships at prestigious hotels. Siddhant Das and Kriti Rijhwani have been selected to undertake internships in the Food and Beverage Department and in the Kitchen Department respectively, at The Courtyard by Marriott - Mumbai International Airport.
Saifuddin Bhatia has been selected for an internship by the Titan Company Ltd. at the Tanishq Bandra Store. The school is proud to encourage these students along their path towards a meaningful career.
Thus the month of September was filled with many heart-warming moments.
