UPDATES FOR FEBRUARY 2018
EXTERNAL EVENTS:
On 15th & 16th February Avadhut Magar Head of Visual Arts & Crafts won the prestigious "Art Teacher Excellence Award" from the India Art and Design Education Association. The Award was granted for his work with Special Children.
INTENSIVE INTEGRATION PROGRAMME (IIP):
S.P.J. Sadhana Intensive Integration Programme occurred throughout the month of February. The different classes and departments embarked on their annual excursions with great excitement and gusto.
6th & 20th February the Prevocational class went for a short nature trip to Alibaug. On the journey by Ferry they were able to persue mindfulness meditation which medium is being used in school to create calm and increase the Right Brain activities of the students.
One of the goals of the trip was to engage the students in this exercise and explore their impact on them in an unknown environment.
The trip to the Nehru Science Centre was to excite the curiosity of the students and open them to new learning processes, especially involving visual and tactile path ways. Both the trips were extremely successful in achieving the goals through fun and enjoyment.
13th February Grade IV and Skills Enhancement students flew to Ahmedabad, a first-time experience for many of them. There, the students visited Historic sights and the Light Show at Akashar Dham which was the highlight of the trip. As the goal is to give the students as wide an experience as possible in all learning fields, they travelled back on 16th February by night train, which journey they took in their stride. The classes coordinated well and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
19th & 23rd February the Hospitability & Catering Section and Office Procedure Course visited Delhi & Agra. The journey's goals were to enhance cognitive expansion, social skills and time management. The experience was fruitful and rewarding as apart from learning the appointed skills, the students' interaction, thoughtful exchanges and friendly competition raised the bar several notches higher.
Apart from visiting historic sights and understanding the modes of employment from Ms. Aradhana Lal, proprietor of the 'Lemon Tree Hotel, the students imbibed the various cultures and cuisines of India, at the 'Kingdom of Dreams'. It was a truly memorable learning experience for them.
On 23rd February the students of Grade III experienced the city –sights from our open-air bus on the way to the Nehru Science Centre. The Centre was a scene of discoveries, most of which they found enjoyable. From there they continued to "SMAASH" to play on the Trampoline and for lunch.
This Intensive Integration Programme ended with an overnight stay in School with the teachers. The students were at ease in their classroom and adjusted to the outing with very little difficulty.
On 28th February Grade I & II went to Kidzinia and Mahindra Park. The students participated in six Activities which were aimed at Community Helping and Visual Learning. The students were able to accept the new atmosphere and the excessive noise while participating in the games and enjoy themselves. A point of fact was that though that accepted behavioural issues in a new environment, there were none.
OUTREACH:
50 Students of Bombay Hospital College of Nursing visited the School on 22nd Feb for an Orientation with Kashmira Vazifdar.
The MSC students from Sophia College attended the School in February for their projects.
SPORTS:
On 3rd February the students participated in the Secure Giving Concern India Foundation Athletic & Fun Games at Bandra, Pali Hills Road and won 6 Gold, 1 Silver & 10 Bronze medals.
On 16th February the students attended the Special Olympic Unified Athletic Event at the Sports Authority of India Ground at Kandivli. The total tally of medals was 8 Gold 11 Silver and 10 Bronze. The students' behaved with exceptional dignity and self-confidence throughout the event, as they were encouraged and directed by our dedicated staff. Congratulations to all.
On 24th February the students participated with great enthusiasm in the Athletic track and field events organized by Celebration Sports Club. The students won 5 Gold, 2 Silver and 5 Bronze Medals. The Staff also participated in the staff game, an event much enjoyed by the students. Chaitali Vyas and Adora Britto won the Silver and Bronze Medals respectively. Kudos to the Sadhana Team.
EVENTS:
On 23rd February Radhika Bagadia of the Visual Arts & Crafts department participated in the Art Competition held at Nehru Centre, where she was awarded 3rd prize.
On 21st February Ms. Susan Raphael bid farewell to the staff and students of S.P.J. Sadhana School. As one of our most vibrant teachers, Susan will be deeply missed. Good luck to you and we wish you much joy and success.
The students of Hospitality and Catering department attended workshops at HAFT:- 11th September, 25th September, 11th October, 15th, 16th January and 23rd January. Different members of the HAFT Team shared their expertise with the students. They demonstrated the "French Classical Menu" 'Restaurant Etiquette and Napkin Folds'. They also held a Chocolate Workshop and a session on savoury and snacks and international deserts.
We are truly grateful for the enriching experience which gave the students much pleasure and invaluable knowledge.
The month of February was eventful and provided much learning experience for the staff and students.
